Finally got the trim done...

Posted by Johnny_Vee , 13 September 2010 · 43 views

Finally managed to get the trim up around the shop lights (mostly to seal them from dust) and finished the last bit of drywalling/mudding in the shop! Now a bit of sanding and some paint and I can continue on with getting the shop in shape for use.

My plan is to build a large, hanging tool chest for the shop based on a plan I found in FW's 2007 issue of Tools & Shops. Just waiting on the plans (yes I had to buy the paper as no SketchUp or other digital form was available...sigh).

My bench will also get a redux with the three huge drawers currently in place (probably since the house was built in 1917) becoming only one plus two columns of Lee Valley tool trays beside it :

Now to find some reasonably priced 3/4" baltic birch...

A further note:

The large drawer in the bench will have one, maybe two, removable sliding trays installed into it. I already have more than enough storage for larger power tools (routers, etc.) so it needs to be made more usable. And yes, those will be part of this build project as well.

Oh, and I did find some great 3/4" Baltic birch plywood at $52 a 5'x5' sheet...you've just got to love Guild discounts with vendors (my local guild that is...sorry Marc). ;)

An even better score yesterday for 3/4" Baltic birch plywood at $42 a 4'x8' sheet (yes, the measurement is correct) and actually Finnish birch so the glue is waterproof...That sheet normally sells for $96! The rest of the Baltic sheet goods are also on sale... this is reducing my expected costs by a huge amount. WooHoo!! :D
