davestanton 232 Posted July 16, 2011 Report Share How much shrinkage is expected in those logs? I notice your windows reveals are hard up against the head or should I say the lintel log. Most other full log homes I have seen have a gap of around 6 inches above the window that is hidden by an internal and also external architrave that allows for expansion and contraction of the logs in variable weather. Bobby Slack 47 Posted July 17, 2011 Report Share We used standing dead blue spruce. I installed the windows on '09 and had no problems. Quote Link to comment
scottie56005 0 Posted July 20, 2011 Report Share I was going to comment on how dry the logs looked before I saw the comment. This coming from northern Minnesota and the land of log cabins. Your good. Quote Link to comment
Bobby Slack 47 Posted August 14, 2011 Report Share We used 10" logs round inside. It was amazing watching the guys work on them. They would place a log on top of the other, scribe the amount of material to take off, take the log off and with a draw knife shape the log to fit. Frankly amazing. Round logs inside made the joinery in the corners also very interesting. Quote Link to comment
