This is a drop spindle for spinning wool by hand. My first attempt at segmented turning in walnut and maple shellac finish.

why is it so far from the head? does the rod go all the way through your wood? can you explain a little about what you doing and how you did it?

I turned the spindle from some scrap Walnut then added the segmented weight on the narrow end of the stock then I turned the pie shaped segments round to finish. I forgot to take some finished pictures but the wife promises to send me some with some newly spun yarn.
