Gary 669 Posted May 13, 2014 Report Share Hi ShaneJ- I mixed 1 part mineral spirits, 1 part boiled linseed oil (BLO), and one part Minwax Satin oil-based polyurethane. I sanded everything to 220 and simply flooded the finish onto the surfaces. I spread it out with a cotton cloth so that I had a nice wet surface and I allowed it to sit for several minutes.I wiped it back with a folded cotton cloth very quickly to remove excess finish being careful to wipe with the grain and to not overwork it. Wiping too much can leave tracks as the surface begins to set and gets a bit gummy. After allowing it to dry overnight, I very lightly sanded between coats with 320 sanding pads and I coated again. I put two coats on the bench top surface and three coats everywhere else. If I remember correctly,After it dried a couple of days I did a final buff/rub with Scotch brand synthetic steel wool, the white one I think. It is super easy to do, but a little time intensive due to drying times. It took around two weeks for the finish to completely set up because of the high oil content. Hope this answers your question!
