Guitar pick table #2

ken_in_kanata

The construction is basically the same as the first one I did. #2 is slightly longer by about 3” and is made from some to the 50 b.f. of select cherry that I won as first prize with the first one. The top on #2 is attached to the legs using blind wedged dowels and finished with several coats of a tung oil, polly, mineral spirits mixture and then several coats of wax. On this one, not being limited to only one board I was able to pick the best parts of several boards to use for the legs. Paying special attention to the way the grain runs on the lower part of the legs not only for ascetics but for strength as well. I also ran the grain for the hub horizontal rather than vertical to give a better flow to the legs. It now sits happily in a corner of our family room.

Hi Ken, usually when I admire a piece of furniture I'm seeing the wood first, then the design. But with this piece what caught my eye was the design, even though the wood choice is very beautiful. I was wondering where your inspiration for the guitar pick table top came from? Anyway, I love your work - it inspires me to try new designs.

Thanks for the nice comments Samantha. The inspiration actually came from Marc (Thanks Marc). He did a 6 part video series http://thewoodwhisperer.com/episode-34-end-table-pt-1/ where he showes the designing and making of his end table. I just took that idea and put my own twist on it.
