OT: Mark needs a new clock

Over the course of the Roubo build, time appears to have stopped... at 8:10, as per the clock in the background.

That must be what happens when a build is really in the groove.

Maybe someone in AZ can stop by with some batteries for Mark.

Lets do the Roubo! Just joined

I have been using Marc for a few months now in helping me pick tools, set them up, build some jigs etc and could not be more pleased with his instruction, humor and approach, the guy is just my style. Needless to say after I read both of Mr Schwarz books on benches plus a host of others and then saw that the guild was doing a split roubo I knew it was time to pony up and join up for the build.

Suggestion For The Next Guild Build!

Hey there Guildies. As we near the end of the Chest of Drawers project, its time to start thinking about the next Guild Build. So far we've made a Shaker Table, which I would classify as a medium-sized project. And now we have a Chest of Drawers, which I think of as a large project. So how about something small this time? I'm not going to offer any suggestions myself since I don't want to sway any opinions. Feel free to post pictures, plans, or simply a description. If we luck out and find a project that already has a good quality plan, that sure makes things easier for us. We can always modify it to our liking.

Let's hear it!

Shipping Furniture/Projects

Just curious if anyone here has any advice on shipping small to medium sized projects cross-country. I know there's a lot consider in terms of environment and wood-movement. For now though, I'm mostly thinking about cost and care of handling. Other things I just can’t really control. I have small cabinet (4' x 2' x 6") that I'd like to ship (about 1600 miles). The weight is not considerable (likely <20lbs). Ideally the cost of shipping wont exceed what I paid for the material to build it. The cabinet has a door with a piece of glass in it. I have tons of very sturdy packing foam/material that could wrap the whole thing in. Enough to protect against any reasonable amount of abuse. I suppose I could do a bit better by placing another piece of scrap plywood over the door/glass (backside is already protected by plywood), though I don't know if this is overkill or how it would affect the cost. Given the project, I think crating is definitely overkill. Anyone have good/bad luck with the standard carriers (Fedex, USPS, UPS, DHL, etc …)

Just looking for opinions/wisdom. Thanks

Unsolicited Advice

So let me start off by saying that I don't think Marc needs any advice running the show here, I think he does a great job! This is also light-hearted/fun advice (mostly for selfish reasons)...

Marc, have you thought about maybe making the first week of a guild build free? Kind of like a drug dealer, the first hit could be free.

I only mention this because I was thinking about joining for the wall hanging cabinet build, but decided against it because I am missing some key tools and have some shop projects I want to complete first (namely a router table). However, I'm pretty sure that if I had seen the first video I would have been hooked and I would have had no choice but to join!

I really want to see the guild continue to flourish because we all win: Marc makes a better living and we get to enjoy quality content for years to come. I can't wait to join!

Remember, when it comes to marketing: WWDD (What Would a Drug-dealer Do)

Guild Member Video Testimonials

Hey folks. I am looking for a few video testimonials for a future Guild sales video. This video will live on the Guild sales page and will hopefully convince others to join in the fun. What I am looking for is a very brief honest testimonial about your experience in the Guild. I will likely pick and choose from all of the submissions and chop things up to make it a compelling short sequence. Your entire video will not be used. Instead of ME saying how great the Guild is, my goal is to simply have actual Guild members expressing their thoughts on the Guild experience.

What I am looking for is a brief video that answers the following questions:

What does the Guild mean to you?
What have you learned/built as a result of being a member (even if it isn't a Guild Build project)?
How has the Guild helped you grow as a woodworker?

While I always appreciate good quality audio and video, that is not nearly as important as getting your face on camera. So even if you have a crappy little camcorder and you want to participate, please don't hesitate. And if I don't use your entry, please do not be offended. I still love you.

Once you have a video file ready, please email me and we'll make arrangements for the file transfer since it is likely to be rather large. But again, keep the video as brief as possible.

Thanks everyone!
