cityhomestead
Hi all, Looking for some advice from those of you that know a lot more about this than I. I had an American Elm cut down from my father in laws back yard and milled into live edged slabs. It along with the burl has been aged for a year now and I am looking to get it to some local crafts people but I am unsure of what a fair price would be to ask for. I have about 450 board feet, varying from an 1 1/2" slabs to 3" slabs. Longest being 7' and down. Any advice appreciated!
dwacker
Here big slabs are about $10 a bf but thats surfaced and flat. Small stuff is not worth anything unless it cut into lumber then it goes for $1.50 - $2.50bf I wouldnt think of yours as big slabs.

G S Haydon
Jealous you have elm, it used to be a really common tree in the UK. Thanks to Dutch Elm disease there are very few around. Sounds like a great tree.
Indy Cindy
Jealous you have elm, it used to be a really common tree in the UK. Thanks to Dutch Elm disease there are very few around. Sounds like a great tree. Almost no elm left here either due to the Dutch Elm disease. My grandparents used to live on Elm Street, and yes, it was lined with the graceful vase shaped elm trees. None left.

mongcon
I also have some American elm, roughly 300 bf of 1" slabs each 26 inches wide, 12 feet long. I also hope to sell it for projects or furniture, wonder what to charge for slabs that dimension.
Chuck Melton
I just paid $3.20/BF for 15" wide 6/4 slabs. There really isn't much Elm left in Maryland so I was pretty happy with the price.
..Kev
Suggest contacting hardwood dealers in your area to find out what a particular species is going for. Lumber prices vary a great deal across the country.
