dmwechs
A friend asked me to fix his folding table, and I am trying to figure out the best way to go about this.... This table consists of 4- 2'x4' plywood tops that fold down around the collapsed legs. they are attached by piano hinges. when collapsed, this table is only about 6" thick... pretty neat... Anyhow.... due to user error in opening the table, one of the leaves snapped off right at the screw line where the piano hinges were attached... What i am trying to figure out is if I can somehow fix this piece without having to replace the entire leaf. Will any combination of screws, dowels or epoxy be strong to hold up to the stresses of opening and closing that table?
mikem
That looks like a pretty nasty break. However, I am thinking remove the piece still attached to the hing, and glue and clamp it back together with your favorite PVA glue. When reattching the piano hinge, you may want to offset it just a bit and drill new screw holes it as well.
