duckkisser
hey I cut down a crab apple tree and got a few blocks out of it. there small bowl blanks but I found out a few things. first off the wood cracks and breaks very quickly. second the connection between growth rings separates very easily. out of 12 half logs I only ended up with 5-6 small bowls. half of them cracked in the first day or while roughing them out to dry they fell apart and flew across the shop. so after cutting the wood wax it right there then when you make rough blanks wax again make sure the tools are sharp and only take light cuts if you try to cut too deep it could shatter the bowls. Byrdie
I tried to make some boxes out of some air dried apple once and both of them opened up as I was working them. Not sure what it takes to get stable working wood out of apple. It sure has nice color but it's a pain to work.
