The Deals Thread

Ditto for my old Peltor yellow headphones.  Battery door held on with tape, working fine.  It's my new 3M Tekk ones that died.  I've also had bad experiences with other yellow look-alikes.

I like the Howard Leight headphones that I got on Marc's recommendation.  I only use them with the audio cable - FM is lousy in my basement.

This seems like a deal to me... Home Depot has a 4-pack of Bessey F-style clamps for under $20. It's two 6in and two 12in. Seems like more small clamps are always handy. I had to grab a couple packs even though I'm normally Jorgensen for clamps.

That's a really good price on the 1617 router!  That's a very nice router if anyone is looking for one!

Unless I am missing something the Amazon prices seem a little better even with the 25 off at Ace... At least with Prime anyway...

You are correct!  Anytime you see that router under 200, it's a good deal!

I've got a Porter Cable 7518 in my router table, a Bosch 1617EVS, and the plunge base that came with my table saw which is mounted in a Jet router lift on my table saw extension table. 2 router table system going on, but not sure about keeping it that way, (taking it off to do routing is a pain). A porter cable single speed trim router (meh), I want the Festool MFK700 for doing bindings on guitar bodies.

Well boys...save your money and pass on these.  They fit great and block out the noise well, and the AM/FM reception is fine, but they're not loud at all either on radio or with the ipod...and I like loud.  These don't even get close to a satisfying volume level.  I'll keep them because any music is better than no music, but it's pretty disappointing.  Be warned.

Eric either you got a bad set or I don't like music as loud as you.  I used mine yesterday and it was more than loud enough and in fact I turned it down.  I'd send yours back and get another set just to be sure.

I may do that...thanks for the insight.

I do like my music LOUD, though.  So maybe it's just me.  But I'm not able to get the volume anywhere NEAR loud.

Hmmm but after that it knocks the set up to about $80-90ish for that. Wouldn't there be something better all in one at that range then and you wouldn't have to worry about the extra piece getting lost?

Yep I should have looked a little more before ordering that attachment.  Here's an all in one unit...

http://www.amazon.com/Audio-Tough-Sounds-Protection-Headphones/dp/B00L9MFATO/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1416760813&sr=8-2&keywords=bluetooth+ear+protection

Ordered a pair and will let you know what I think.  Mainly I like the ability get a phone call while I am working...a requirement... Oh and I was able to cancel the other item which was nice.

Right now I'm about to order some exotic hardwoods 1/8"x3"x24" for some router-based inlay like Marc demonstrates.

I have not purchased exotic woods before, nor have I ordered wood off of the internet.

It doesn't seem to me like I have many options.

I checked Rockler and Woodcraft for by-the-piece lumber, and Rockler seems better($) for the species I want.

The question is; "Does Rockler (or anyone) ever offer deals on their whole line-up of exotics so if you wanted a variety pack you could get one cheaper than the full retail price?"

Alternatively, "Is there a Black Friday special that I'm not seeing which would give me X% off."

I see where they are offering free shipping with a $20+ order, and that is not inconsequential considering my budget, but I feel like $100 for ten 1/8" "shingles", some scroll saw blades, and some veneer tape is little excessive (or at least out of the comfort zone).

Like I say...It's all new to me.

Is there an online exotics retailer I should know about?

Dave
