Jfitz
I recently started with turning pens, and I really enjoy it. So far I've stayed with the same routine/style, just to get some consistency. I've been using CA as a finish and I'm getting pretty decent with it. I was thinking of making some pens for a few people to celebrate certain accomplishments or milestones, and want to put some sort of symbol, graphic or other image on the pen but under the CA finish. Is this as easy as printing something on a clear label and applying it to the pen before finishing? Or maybe applying it after the first coat? Any tips or suggestions would be welcome. TimV
I've created decals for machinery that I've rebuilt but never for a wood project. I imagine that the process could be the same. Here's a link to Vintage Machinery.org with istructions how to do it for machines. http://wiki.vintagemachinery.org/CreatingDecals.ashx The wiki site asks for a login, but you can cancel out of it and still get the instructions. Or, you can create a free login. There is also alot of cool information and machines on that site for you to puruse too! I'd love to see how it works out. This sounds like a great idea! Jfitz
Thanks Tim - I found at least one thread where that paper is used to make a decal that is applied under a CA finish on a pen.
