Allan Hef Forsyth
Things are cooking along now. I don't have a good feel for all of the electronics etc but I think knowing what those will cover would help in laying out the body. Love the inlay and super anxious to see the finished piece. good call, i'll make some paper cutouts of the trem, pickups and controls tomorrow to help decide. Freddie
You need to figure out a better way to load your posts and pictures because your posts are about 20 feet long and take 10 minutes for the page to load and stop jumping around. Allan Hef Forsyth
Uhh, ok. Any suggestions? They're all hosted on my own server, I just couldn't see any easy way of linking there from here without spending a thousand hours in photoshop fannying around making thumbnails. Would be pretty crap just having a bunch of random URLs in the thread but if that's the consensus I'll do that in future...?
Freddie
I resize all my photos to 750x1000 pixels. I use preview on my mac, takes a few seconds. This is a very interesting thread and I enjoy seeing the progress, but I dread opening the page because it takes way too long to load all the images, and the scroll jumps up and down trying to keep up with the page loading. TerryMcK
#3 looks best IMO. The mirrored figure on the lower and upper bouts will still be there when the electronics are fitted. The main inevitable issue with figure is you end up cutting right through it when routing the pickup cavities and neck pocket so don't stress too much about it. If you are hosting the photos on your own server (at home) you will be restricted by the adsl upload limit your provider gives. Normally upload is less than 1Mbit/second. This is why we are seeing very slow page loads. Best to put the photos (still full size) onto a commercially hosted photo site like Flickr or Photobucket. Then we are only limited by our download speeds.
Allan Hef Forsyth
I would always expect other people's downspeed to be the bottleneck. I have an FTTC fiber line that gives me 200 megabit down and 20 megabit up continuously. I'm not expecting that my upload is the bottleneck here. 1.5MB files transfer instantly on my end. TerryMcK
Apologies then (you did ask for suggestions) - wasn't aware of your arrangement - sounds like a commercial setup.
Allan Hef Forsyth
I use it in a somewhat industrial fashion. Working in music production, I need to be able to transfer projects quickly between me and the rest of the band/production customers. I have an idea that might solve the problem. Will test it out later this evening.
Freddie
Well it's not a problem on my end either. I can load any other page in this forum instantly. Hell, I can load 10 pages of porn on my computer and it will not skip a beat.

Allan Hef Forsyth
Here is the neck me and my uncle made for my ibanez prestige 7 string. That looks totally awesome man. Nice one. How hard was it to carve? Do you have any tips for marking out a volute like that when cutting the side profile of the neck? I'm a little concerned that I'm gonna take too much off and ruin that. Freddie
I made two templates for the neck. Ill upload the pics after work if i can find them.
Freddie
I found these three pictures. It's been so long that I forgot how i did it. It appears that I made my neck template the same thickness as the fattest part of the volute. From there we shaped the neck down to where it felt comfortable, and comparing it to the original with calipers and a contour gauge.
Allan Hef Forsyth
Cheers man. That makes a lot more sense than the way I was thinking of doing it. I assume you bandsawed that profile then worked from there to create the final profile, yeah?
Allan Hef Forsyth
Hopefully that's the images problem sovled. Turns out you can use a script in photoshop to batch resize a whole folder of images at once. Made them all 1024x768. Let me know if it's working better for yous now. Allan Hef Forsyth
Hello again. Kinda gave up on doing a full journal but for those that were interested, I managed to get this finished FINALLY at the beginning of the month.
