JusticeBeaver
Anyone know of mobile bases that can move in all directions? Or alternatively, why i wouldn't want such a thing for a very small space.
Tpt life
I can tell you on a table saw I would not want wheels oriented in the line of rip. That said, it is all a matter of how much you want to mess around with orienting the casters.
Andrew Pritchard
My table saw's wheels lift up off the ground when you lock it in place. I could consider it necessary for all mobile bases if they have power tools on them. The last thing you want is the damn thing moving on you when you're trying to use them! Even if the saw's wheels only worked perpendicular to the line of cut, I would be concerned if you're trying to put pressure on the work piece and the fence as you push through that the saw might move on you. Best case scenario you might ruin the piece. Worse case you might get kickback as the piece twists inside the cut.
Marco Divetta
Mobile bases are very useful in any size shop. I prefer the ones where the wheels lift of the ground when the machine is in use, I find that even the wheels with the breaks rotate on the spot even though the wheel itself isn't spinning.
JusticeBeaver
all the bases I can find have two fixed and two swivel wheels. It takes a little more space to maneuver those compared to my table saw with a Herculift that can go for a "four way" maneuver.
Alan Bienlein
As long as they are the type of swivel caster that locks both the wheel from turning and the caster from swiveling you will be good to go. All of my tools are on these type of swivel casters and once locked they don't move. The casters on my SCMS station. The same casters on my mobile table saw/router table cabinet. And on my out feed/down draft able.
