Dnorris1369
Anyone know anything about the rikon that woodcraft has on sale for 419? Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
Eric.
1 HP motor and aluminum wheels are a bit of a turnoff to me personally, but it's a pretty good price for a 14" saw from a fairly respected maker.
RJsumthn
I was considering it then I decided it wouldn't be enough and it would be replaced in a few years. So I went with a better saw from the start. If you don't plan on resawing anything over 5" it might be a decent saw. It would make a good saw that you just left a 1/4" blade in specifically for curves
woodieboy
You'll be good with 1 HP , 14" band saw.
JoshC1501
I like my Rikon bandsaw. The fence stinks and is a pain in the ass to setup. Had an issue with belts walking off the pulleys. Rikon helped me over the phone, sent me a new belt for free. Solid Affordable Saw Good Customer Service
Dnorris1369
Which one do u have josh Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
JoshC1501
14" Deluxe. They are around $1000 now. I paid $800 for mine last year around this time.
Jfitz
I have that same saw. You can usually wait and get on sale for sub-$800, just be patient. At the $1K price point you should be able to compare with saws that might offer a little more, like the Laguna 14-
Dnorris1369
Seems like everyone think the 1hp isn't enough Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
mikem
I have a 1hp 14" Bandsaw, and it has done everything I have asked of it, including some resawing. The key here is having a good quality, and sharp blade for your bandsaw.
missioninwood
1 HP motor and aluminum wheels are a bit of a turnoff to me personally.... Totally agree with Eric. For me the alum wheels and bearings were reason enough to look elsewhere. I had a Craftsman for years and I just felt like the Rikon was the same thing--in green. Besides, after I saw the ceramic guides of the Laguna 14-12 I was smitten. miw!
woodieboy
Cast iron wheels are better than aluminum wheels. Cast iron has more mass and better for damping vibration.
markpelly
If you were to add a bike inner tube to these aluminum wheels , would that help with noise and traction/tracking?
woodieboy
Vibration and tracking problems can be traced directly to worn- out tires but there are other variables why band saw is loud/ out of tracking. Here are few ways to troubleshoot when you encounter vibration , check if the band wheels are balanced, if not, balance the wheels. If the band wheels are already balanced but vibration is still present, double check the alignment of your pulley, the drive belt and lower wheel.
