rubus
Hi folks, Just looking at upgrading my tablesaw and getting into something stationary at the lower end. Looking at the general 50-200 (2hp) or lagona fushion 1 3/4 hp. The lagona is 200 bucks more at $1400 in my area. Any thoughts on which way I should lean? Thanks
wtnhighlander
I have no experience with either saw, but more horses are usually good. Does the general claim 2 hp at 110 volts, or does it state that 220 volts is necessary?
knotscott
For clarity, the 50-200R is from General "International", not to be confused with the high end Canadian made "General" line....both lines are owned by the same people. The 50-200R and Fusion look to me like they roll from the same factory. Compare the warranties, fences, and other "bolt-ons". FWIW, the 50-200R did well in Wood Mag's recent comparison, but I believe they ran it on 220v. The Grizzly G0715P did well in the same comparison, but was also run on 220v IIRC. If you have 220v, and are looking in the budget range of the 50-200R and the Fusion, you could also afford something like the Grizzly G1023RL or G0690 (< $1500 shipped), which are both 3hp industrial grade cabinet saws, and are both a significant step up from the 50-200R, Fusion, or G0715P. If you don't have 220v, I'd make certain that either of the hybrid saws mentioned will run well on a standard 120v circuit. Entry level stationary saws include the new Delta 36-725 from Lowes, Ridgid R4512 @ HD, and the Craftsman 21833 @ Sears.....all < $600. Others higher up the 120v price ladder would include the Steel City 35990 series (~ $700-$1000), Steel City 35950 (~ $900-$1100), Craftsman 22116 (~ $1000, by Steel City), Rikon 10-201 (~ $900, also by Steel City), the Jet Proshop (~ $1500), the PM1000 (~ $2k), the Saw Stop contractor saw (starting ~ $1700), and Saw Stop PCS (~ $2500). minorhero
I second taking a closer look at Grizzly. They are going to be cheaper then either General or Lagona and at least in the table saw field the quality will be very comparable. If you live within a 5 hour radius of one of their warehouses, they are having tent sales around now and will definitely be worth your time to drive into one and pickup a saw at an even more discounted rate.
