nod
I replied to a CL ad a while ago. The woman finally responds back a month or more later. The ad is no longer up, but she sent me an inventory and I've picked a couple out that seem interesting, but I don't know anything about. Any input on the following would be great. Are they worth pursuing? decent/bad prices, etc? tia. CHISELS Marples/Ridgway Chisels M222/S5 made in England new 1/4"(6mm), 3/8" (9mm), 1/2" (13mm), 3/4" (19MM), 1" (25MM) $40 Windrose Chisels made in West Germany new 3/8", 1/2", 3/4", 1" $30 Stanley Wood Chisels 16-1504 new 1/2", 3/4", 1" $10 ECE Primus Plane Small Block #249 P 39mm new $100 Stanley #3 bench hand plane $70 Antique planes made of wood (3) $10/each I've got two of the blue 'marples' chisels that I've brought back to life. I'm not familiar with these listed. Are they on the 'good' side? or the newer 'pass' side? Not sure about the others either. can't find any info. There are some other items that are pretty reasonable, or have no maker, so I think I have to see them in person.
G S Haydon
Chisels should be fine, sharpen em and use em, don't pay over the ods for them. Never heard of the model. If you fancy the primus cool, for me I'd pass. Stanley #3 for $70, meh, if it's real nice and original, old etc then maybe. Wooden planes, could be fine, would need to see first. TerryMcK
Ask her if she can send pictures top side and bottom of the Stanley #3. It may reveal if it is worth $
nod
How much different is a 3 vs a 4? if I understand correctly, it's a bit lighter and smaller than a 4. it's still a smoother, right? any major reason to use that vs just using the 4? I'm not familiar with Primus, so wasn't sure if I 'had' to have it or not. i'm still trying to win a good 60 1/2 Sounds like the rest is ok to at least check out. Wanted to make sure it was worth the time before I made the trip. thanks.
G S Haydon
A #3 is nice, I have one. If you have the funds it's always nice to have more options in the tool box!
Llama
I had a LN #3. Loved it, but it was too small for my giant hands

nateswoodworks
#3 can be nice, but they are smaller. I bought a Bedrock 603 (same size as a #3)for my daughter because the #4 was just too big for her to handle. I have used it a couple times getting it tuned for her and it is tighter on the hand than a #4 but a new tote or modifying the original can take care of that problem if need be.
