baok
My wife bought a sideboard yesterday that probably dates from the '20s and it has that smell unique to old furniture. What is that musty smell and how do you get rid of it?Spit coat of shellac perhaps?Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
TerryMcK
Check it's not mold first Greg. I was repairing a violin recently that was about 100 or so years old. It was French polished and I used a little mineral spirits on it to take the top layer off. Man did it stink when I did that ! 100 years of somebodies stale sweat was ingrained into it. The spirit released it and smelt like the worst sweaty sock smell you have ever smelt. I re-polished it and no smell so probably shellac will work for you.
