JohnDi
Finally got around to adding a maple butcher block top to my bench. Now I'm wondering if it will be too high? Finished height will be 39 1/2". That's about where my wrist falls with my hands at my sides. I thought I read somewhere that is about right. Dave H
Work with it that height for a while see what you think, my bench is 38 1/2" and it's a comfortable height for me I'm a little over 6' mines high enough so I'm not hunched over which is good for my old back. You can always cut it shorter if it's not right but adding height will be a PITA.
TerryMcK
I'm 6 feet tall and find that 36" is fine for me.
Trip
==>I'm wondering if it will be too high? Primary use power-tool or hand-tool? Hand-tool benches tend to be a few inches lower for hand planing.
Tony Wilkins
I've seen so many folks with 'rules' about what height is right I just don't know anymore. I think you should just try it and see what you think and if anything lower it slowly if you feel you need to.

JohnDi
Thanks. I use both power and hand tools, mostly power though. It feels OK at this height, just looked high to me. I guess I watch too many bench build threads and get caught up in "the rules". I'll leave it as is and change if it's a problem.
Tony Wilkins
One thing to keep in mind, it's a lot easier to shorten legs than it is to reliably lengthen them.

RichardA
Henceforth your forum nickname shall be Lurch. We know where "Lakisha" came from! Benchtop height, is a matter of feel.... If it feels good...do it... Slack is correct, you can always shorten it, Talling it, Is a PITA!
wtnhighlander
At 6' tall, a 36" bench is comfortable to me, and just happens to match the height of my table saw. Instant outfeed table!
