Heavydc2
Not sure what I am going to do with it yet, because it's very small, but I will figure something out... Book matched spalted apple
..Kev
Wow! Very cool looking! What's the size?

Llama
Wow! I'd love to make a reindeer with that!
Heavydc2
It's about 8/4 thick, 6 in square.
..Kev
It's about 8/4 thick, 6 in square. Certainly not a lot to work with but, I'm sure you'll find a good use for it. It's a beautiful piece!
wdwerker
That deserves to be something special. Thanks for sharing it !
Beechwood Chip
It looks like it was a fork that magically bookmatched itself, but how could it spalt identically on both sides?
Bill Tarbell
It looks like it was a fork that magically bookmatched itself, but how could it spalt identically on both sides? my guess is that he ripped a bad chunk off the side and then crosscut it to make the bookmatching. Byrdie
Not a lot of area but with that thickness some careful resaw work should yield some nice veneer, perhaps for inlay on the top of a small Shaker end table or a nightstand or something of that size.
RichardA
What Byrdie said, works perfect! how many inlay pieces can you get from that? More than one... Would look good in many things!
Bill Tarbell
I'm pretty inexperienced here but a concern i'd have with turning that into veneers would be that it'd end up a bit crumbly. My assumption is all that spalting(rot) would weaken the wood so thicknesses under 1/4" would be a bit questionable. I could be way off, so consider this just as much a question as it is a concern
Byrdie
If the wood is that soft there are several ways to stabilize it. Similar concerns apply to burl but there are lots of examples of pieces with burl veneer.
jHop
Lazy susan comes to mind... as does the main drawer of a china cabinet or pie safe. I could also see it as the centerpiece inlay of a display footstool or placemat/ place setting. Or part of the jewelry case lid. And a part of me wants to see it turned into a globe, but i'm not sure how.
Heavydc2
It's almost too small to be a lazy Susan... And besides I already made this lazy Susan

ColinF
Put a nice clear coat on it and hang it on the wall! You can call it interpretation art!
Heavydc2
So I took 4 more slices off trued, glued, sanded, rubbed w mineral spirits. First one: Second one: Last...: rotate that 90 degrees...
wdwerker
Awesome ! Background for a clock face ? Something simple , just 4 numbers and 2 hands. Use a clear satin finish. That's one thing I would use one for.
woodbutcher74
There was a post awhile back and somebody painted faces on pieces like that. They looked pretty cool. I can see an angel or something in that piece.
jhl.verona
A clock would be nice, but I wouldn't put the numbers. Can't believe the colours and spalting in that apple. You did a great job on the resawing, well done! John
weithman5
inlay in a desk/table top or side of a book case, trivet, coaster...
jHop
I agree with John... don't put numbers on the clock face. Maybe make up a small apple into a button, and mount it for the 12? (Kind of like those fashion mens' watches that just have the diamond on the black face.)
Tpt life
Even minimalist brass strips at the quadrants. Would not need to be more than an eighth wide and 1/2" long.

I can see an angel or something in that piece. Clock is my choice and do not use the "paint" word again. That's just wrong. In the first picture, I see a human in a stretched out position like he/she's sitting on the floor with legs spread stretching out like they're in dance or karate.
