pse56
What kind of finish would you guys use for a chess board. Making 2. One with maple and walnut, one with Kingwood and Satinwood.
wdwerker
Rattle can lacquer comes to mind if you don't have a spray gun.

Benjamin Smith
I'm doing a french polish on mine, as I'm not concerned with anyone putting beverages on it. Maple and walnut are so awesome under blonde shellac. Most of the effort this way always comes from curves and details, so a plain flat surface is a real opportunity to shine. Marco Divetta
What about an oil or wax finish that won't scratch over time as the pieces are being moved around ??
wtnhighlander
With oil or wax there will still be scratches, just in the wood rather than a film finish.
