mds2
I received a Veritas dovetail saw for Christmas this last year, so recently I have been spending quite a bit of time teaching myself how to dovetail. Last week I was making a little box and had it half way assembled when my wife came into the shop. She asked me if I was making some sort of puzzle and thought it looked really cool. So I sat the half assembled box down and gave it a second look. With the pins pushed half way into the tails it gives a great visual of how the joinery works and is an interesting design detail. The lid is arched and has two large dovetails cut in it, leaving a thin strip to grasp. The box is made of hard maple with a walnut accent. weithman5
i really like that. i may try that and then fill the gaps with another piece of wood of different colors in this case the walnut just to see what it is like. what a neat little project. RichardA
Nicely done, heck of a way to learn how to do dovetails! But, will it hold water?
mikem
But, will it hold water? If it doesn't then it is considered art!

woodieboy
Next time, I won't push my dovetails ! That's totally a brilliant idea. Terrific modification on dovetailing. Well done.
Beechwood Chip
Talk about celebrating the joint! Greene and Greene have their proud box joints, and you've invented the recessed dovetail.
