osgw380
Hello this is a set of pedestals for deer mounts. Each one will have a shoulder mounted deer attached to the top. One pedestal is walnut and black jack that is the one the wife decided to keep. The other is walnut and hickory and I sold that one. The middle is glass around and a small shelf in the middle. They come apart into three pieces for transport and the middle section attaches to the bottom by slotted holes and threaded inserts to allow for movement. This was a fun project and caused some critical thinking working on the middle because of the angles but all came out really well and these are some of my favorite pieces to date. The bottom and top was joined with the finger joints seen and the middle is all mortise and tennon joinery. I finished them with dewaxed shellac then top coated with arm-r-seal. Once I get the mount back I'll try to post a picture of it all together.

bradpotts
Those turned out great. I like the contrasting wood. I have never heard of black jack before. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
wdwerker
Nice work! Is the black jack an oak? If the deer mount goes on top what will be displayed in the glass cabinet ?
osgw380
The lighter one is the hickory, darker is the black jack. Thanks for the compliments. Yes black jack is a red oak usually has a lot of dead lower branches and the bark is dark almost black has leaves similar to post oak. The top of the blackjack pedestal is a good example of what most of it looks like. It has lots of dark and light striping with some pinks and purples in places. Not sure what the wife will put on the shelves she has quite a few skulls from small game that I image will go in there.

Byrdie
Somebody has a lot of ribbons! The mount is nicely done and the pedestals will be a really classy way to display them. Good on you!
Coop
Allen, Great looking wooding. I'm assuming you did the mount as well? What part of the country are you in?

osgw380
I did not do the mount only the base. Wildlife images in ft. Smith Arkansas did the mount. I'm from eastern Oklahoma in Stigler.
