wtnhighlander
Despite a moment of disheartening realization ( ), the miter sled I built for crown moulding performed well. Here is the sled: I based it on Jay Bates' design. Here are some 'before' shots: And here is after: I have to say I am pleased with the sled. One setup for the width of the crown, then all cuts are made by simply orienting the piece on the proper side of the sled. I've never been able to make miters fit so well with my SCMS. Now if my coped joints were just a little tighter...

Freddie
That seems like a heck of a lot of work for crown, but the results speak for themselves. Nice job you crazy son of a gun!
missioninwood
I was gonna say that is like one of the craziest jig like ever. I just cut the crown flat on the bed, compound angle stlye, and hand adjust from there...but great job! The crown was def a nice touch to the project. miw
wtnhighlander
The sled only took about 2.5 hours to build. I'm sure I would have wasted more time resetting my crappy miter saw every time I had to cut opposing angles. The scale on that thing is only 'approximate', to say the least! Now with the sled I just drop in the stick and go! Thanks for the kind words, everyone!
wdwerker
I use a jewelers saw, scroll saw blades and a few small files/rasps to cope inside corners. I bet one of those titanium coping saws would be a joy to use, maybe one day ... Your kitchen looks great with the new crown.
Guest
looks great, the crown really modernizes the look compared to the rail detail it replaced.
