When to add hardware to a project?

According to my wife, metric is the system of standard for medical personnel.

 

That makes sense to me, as metric works well in small increments and it's easy to do the math. I have no idea what the imperial equivalent of a milligram would be. But for measuring anything larger than my hand I'd rather use imperial. 

 

Back on topic, does green painters' tape withstand shellac?

Tap! should work, but you must be very careful to press the edges down thoroughly. It doesn't take much slack to let the finish seep under. Personally, I'd just take the hardware off.
