Llama
I am working on a client build for two full-size beds. The beds will be made with walnut and cherry. No secondary woods allowed. The legs will be walnut, with the rest of the bed being cherry. I will start with a prototype for the legs for client approval this week. Wood stacked: Model made using Autodesk Inventor: Thanks for looking.

pghmyn
Holy cow does that look awesome. I am digging the legs and for this. I'm notorious for straight lines and no curves, but that is amazing. I'm looking forward to this!
Byrdie
Looks like there's going to be some nice, large elements. This should be interesting to watch.
wdwerker
Your gonna use cherry or walnut for bed slats? This is going to be interesting to watch you build. Design looks great.
Llama
Sam, thanks The client showed me a picture that provided the inspiration for this. I simply cleaned up the design and made it more modern. Byrdie, thanks! You'll notice the legs have a flat on the top and bottom of the curve. This is because the beds will be used as bunk beds for the next few years. Steve, thanks! I'm using cherry for the slats.
wtnhighlander
Can't wait to see hiw walnut + cherry finishes out. This looking pretty cool!
Freddie
The design is interesting, would love to see the original photo and how this current design came to fruition. Also, what types of joinery will you be incorporating into this build? I assume the rails will be knock down, will the head boards and foot boards be knock down as well, or have integral joinery?
Llama
I'll post the pic later. The headboard and footboard will be attached using dominoes. The side boards will be knockdown. Either Rockler hardware or similar.
..Kev
Sounds like a sound plan to me! I love the way those legs look and should be awesome against that cherry!
pghmyn
The fiancé approved of this bed design for me to make us but she wants the posts at the foot of the bed shortened. Now to get the list of house projects done first...eh.
Llama
Sam, thanks these are going to be bunk beds for a while. If they weren't, I would have made the foot board legs a bit shorter.
Llama
Updated pic... I reduced the flats on the legs, and stacked them in the rendering...

Llama
My pleasure Mel.. You going to add drawers to them as well? Fortunately, this project doesn't require them!
Byrdie
I hesitate to ask but are you going to have some kind of mating devise so the upper bed doesn't slide off the top of the lower one? I've seen as simple as an indent in the top of the lower unit that the adjusting foot in the upper fits into. More solid would be a dowel glued into the top of the lower that fits into a hole in the bottom of the upper.

Freddie
I have a question about the front rail, ignore me if this is just in the picture. It seems that the mattress is sticking out under the front rail. Are you going to drop the front rail to remedy that, or am I missing something completely? Perhaps a firm "stay" command may be in order.
