Bill Tarbell
My friend picked up a dado set today and it got me poking around for deals on one for myself. I checked ebay and stumbled upon a used set made by Skarpaz. I googled them a bit and they appear to be more of an industrial brand rather than consumer retail. It was actually quite difficult to find anyone that even sells this brand, but it does have a seemingly modern manufacturers website. The set was 8" and came with what seems like (3) 1/8 and (1) 1/16 chippers. It comes with a nice looking box and free shipping for $40. I'm hoping it's a quality deal from someone that didn't know what they had, but i just can't find enough info about Skarpaz to be sure. The seller appears to be a consignment store kind of guy, so there's very little info on the auction. The little bit of pricing i did find about the brand on google hinted that it's about a $300 set, but it wasn't a great source. I truly have very little solid info about the quality of these blades. Does anyone have any experience with Skarpaz or have any info on them? http://www.ebay.com/itm/201156353427
Byrdie
It's not exactly the same set I have but very similar. Three .125 chippers and one .0625 chipper is a pretty normal set up. The one thing I don't like about my set is the chippers only having two ends. It does a good enough job but when I go to replace it I think I'll spring for the ones that are X shaped - 4 ends. For the money I spent on it more than 10 years ago, I really shouldn't complain.
wdwerker
I have one old Skarpaz skilsaw blade. It's a good blade and cuts well. I was looking for a high quality cutting blade to use with a straightedge. I think it was about $60 for a 7 1/4" triple chip high tooth count blade. I think I got it in the late 80"s . Sharpened several times and it still cuts well.
Bill Tarbell
Thanks guys. That makes me feel a little better to know that it'll at least have enough carbide to be resharpened a few times.
