collinb
If there is anyone else around here, where does one get nicer wood such as cherry? HD & Lo's don't really have a selection. I was surprised at how much of a selection Menard's has. Still, there are some things that temp me. When I got my planer it came with a block of purple heart and curly maple. A friend in OK is getting the Purple but I would like to do something with the curly maple. Such a nice texture to that flowing grain. (At worst I'll photograph it with b&w film as a project.) Quality plywood is also desirable. The big box stores obviously have no selection. Like others here, looking for marine grade and other similar plywood grades for speakers and cabinets. Len
Colin, I live in Cincinnati and will regularly make the trip to Xenia to CR Mutterspaw Lumber for quality hardwoods and plywood. They will also ship it to you if you so desire. You can check out the website at http://www.crlumber.com/index.php
Beechwood Chip
I moved this to the midwest forum.
mikem
++++1million on Muterspaw. From Westerville, you are about an 1.5-2 hour drive from him. Also check out Woodwerks. They have two locations, one in Columbus and one in Polaris. Go to their Columbus location. Woodwerks sells lumber as part of their over all store, and they have a good selection, but Muterspaw is nothing but lumber, and has a great selection. He has 3 barns full of wood. Muterspaw prices are good, I haven't looked closely at Woodwerks prices as its not convenient for me to buy wood from them. Also check out Muterspaw's specials. I took advantage of his 100bdft of 6' long 4/4 Cherry about a month ago. That was $2.95/bdft I am not sure if you are outside his delivery circle, but if you live with in 60 miles of Xenia, he offers semi-free delivery for orders over 100bdft (he may charge fuel prices). Interestingly enough, both Muterspaw and Woodwerks have been featured in Marc's shows. In fact Muterspaw is still an active advertiser for Marc. Gilgaron
I've not heard of Muterspaw, I'll have to check them out. I like Kreis Sawmill in Marysville, also if you look on Craigslist there is a cabinet shop in Powell that sells off excess wood cheaply from time to time.
