wouldwurker
Casters are expensive. That's what stops me from buying them. That said, this is the best $80 I've spent in a while. Picked up the woodriver side mount, foot activated wheels for my bench yesterday. I had to beef up the legs on my bench a bit before I installed them. That yellow pine bottom cross piece is new, as is the end cap. Here's the whole bench, crap and all, turned sideways. I really like the foot activated side mount casters, as there's absolutely no chance of the locking mechanism failing, as you have with the on/off bottom mount casters. If I could do it all over, the bench would be a bit lower so as to double as an out feed table, but oh well. This makes me want to put everything on wheels now.
nod
Thumbs up. I've eyed those casters before as well. will be using once my bench is off the saw horses
Mad Hungarian
You know, this is tempting. It'd certainly make it easier to get to the plywood i store behind my bench.
TheWoodShouter
Looks good! But do they lock into place firmly when you're working at the bench? No wiggle back and forth as your say sawing or sanding something? Thanks! -TWS
wouldwurker
Absolutely, because the wheels don't lock, the foot release physically drops the legs to the ground while the wheels float above the floor.
TheWoodShouter
OK, so they are not really locking casters, but more like mobile base wheels, or the wheels on my Ridgid R4512 table saw. Sounds good, I will consider these for my bench. Thanks for taking the time to answer my question, and good luck with your bench and projects! TheWoodShouter
I see now. Very heavy duty, they look like they'd be very secure. Thanks for sharing the pic and for your help! -TWS
Jerry_in_SD
Rockler has a similar product. My bench is probably close to 300#. They work great.
