kimurak
My garage has serious moisture problems. There's no leaks in the roof, and water doesn't drain onto the floor, it's just that the temperature changes and humidity is very high. After a cool spell of rain, it suddenly warms up and everything metal in the garage is condensating. Clamps, files, chisels, etc. I've managed to protect my tablesaw top with various waxes, etc. and my chopsaw is mostly aluminum and magnesium alloy, but every screw and bolt that is not gets rusty. This has prevented me from upgrading any of my tools. Is there a spray protection that would be effective in these situations?
mikem
For hand tools, I build a cabinet for them last year. I have found that keeping the doors to the cabinet closed helps a lot with the changes in temperature. If that still isn't helping in your case, here is a product that will help keep the humidity out of a hand tool cabinet: http://www.leevalley.com/en/Wood/page.aspx?p=53828&cat=1,43326 For your cst iron topped machines, I use paste wax. In fact I just put a fresh coat of it on all my cast iron tops. There is also boeshield. I personally didn't care for the product, but there are many who love it. WD-40 has been used as well. If you are still concerned about humidty, I would put a dehumidifier in your garage.
Keggers
+1 on the dehumidifier in your garage. It will also help maintain a more consistent moisture content in your lumber.
