bushwacked
Ok so I was trying to make Marc's keepsake box and got to the drill press section to bore out some wood before I router it. After about 7 holes with a 1" diameter bit it felt like my machine was going to catch on fire. So i turned it off and now looking for something else. I am thinking a floor standing model that will have enough power to do this job and future jobs. What brands should I be looking for? Not looking to spend $1500+. Was hoping to keep it under $1k. Dnorris1369
I had same experience. I picked up the porter cable at lowes for 300. And it is great Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
atlinwi202
$1000 is quite a budget for a drill press. You should be able to get whatever you need.
Tpt life
My thirty dollar yard sale bench top does all I need. Simple stepped pulleys at the top of each spindle and sharp bits leave me happy enough to struggle with buying one better. If and when I do upgrade it will only be for a floor standing model or a longer throw.

Well I'd like not to spend it but if I really had to I could. Hopefully can find something real nice in the $500 range. What can I get for that since I have all these options? I just don't want to spend this money and get home and figure out its just slightly better than my POS ryobi
wdwerker
Jet makes some good machines. A lot of the metal fabrication guys are getting Baleigh equipment.
chefmagnus@grics.net
Craigslist. I am getting a Delta Floor Model drill press for less than $300. It needs a minor repair and still has 95% of its warranty left... Chef
bushwacked
Ok I'll look into jet. Oh ya good ol Craigslist. I will check that out. What about Laguna tools? They seem to have a good following and decent tools?? Baleigh equipment is something new I have never heard of. How's the quality? The prices seem pretty good too. wdwerker
Quality on Baleigh is supposed to be pretty good. They started in metal working machines and recently branched into woodworking stuff. Made in Tawain like Jet, Powermatic and so many others.
