David Turner
I have looked into a few different ways to clean my saw blades and get the pitch and crud off of them... What do you prefer to make them like new again Thanks
chefmagnus@grics.net
I hate to say this but I only clean my blades when the guy who sharpens them cleans them.
JohnDi
Only thing I have ever used is simple green. Soak for a bit and scrub with a nylon brush. Always seems to do the job.
TerryMcK
I've been using oven cleaner lately with a brass brush. Works OK just got to remember to dry the blade well and give a light spray over with some WD to push out any moisture.
Jim L.
Simple Green Pro HD works great- soak for a few minutes and the crud comes right off with a quick swipe from a brush. I read somewhere that you aren't supposed to use regular Simple Green because it weakens the brazing of the carbide teeth on saw blades. wtnhighlander
Very hot (Coffee hot) water and a few drops of dishwashing detergent. Or put it in the dishwasher if the wife lets you get away with it!
wdwerker
I use the commercially available blade cleaner, I think the last bottle I bought was made by CMT. Spray both sides and make sure to hit the face of every tooth. Let it sit for a few minutes, scrub with a nylon bristle brush.Rinse and inspect, go back for any missed spots. Blow dry and spray w Boesheild Blade cote.
mikem
I hate to say this but I only clean my blades when the guy who sharpens them cleans them. Next time you think the blade needs sharpening, try cleaning it first. I was amazed the difference it made the first time I cleaned a blade. Rick A McQuay
Citrus based degreaser and a toothbrush, works very fast. It will remove blade coatings if you aren't careful. - sent via Tapatalk

Simple green seems so, um, simple (except for that damn smell!).. didn't even think it could have that affect. I'll have to look that up now. Anyways, I just did hot sink water (our is f'ing hot) and a drop of dish soap. Soaked for about a minute, gentle brass brush, and boom. done. like new. Popular Post wdwerker
I'm single and can put any damn thing I want in my dishwasher ! Just not sure the dry cycle wouldn't bake anything leftover right back on. You can poach salmon in the dishwasher . I have also heard you can clean adult toys in there as well.

My motorcycle won't fit in a dishwasher. That is the kind of toy you meant right? Also, remind me never to eat dinner at your house.

weithman5
Poached salmon and dados in the same dishwasher I am not sure he meant dados. I think you have a slight spelling error.
JerrySats
Another happy simple green user . I change blades a lot and got in the habit of cleaning them every time I change them out . The build up doesn't accumulate so much when I do this which leads to easy clean up . I just wipe them down with a microfiber towel after spraying them .

Jim L.
Here is some reading material that persuaded me not to use simple green: http://www.woodbin.com/misc/sawblade_cleaning.htm The company that makes it pushes their Pro version instead for saw blades. JoshC1501
My company makes cleaning products, since I run R&D people are always sending me samples of their products to test . I recently received some samples of a soy based degreaser that is the best thing I have used to clean pitch off saw blades. The best part is it was free. I am pretty sure similar products are available at the big box stores. Another option is to go to your local janitorial supply store. They will sell stronger commercial grade products. chefmagnus@grics.net
I have a DeWalt fine finish 80 tooth blade that I used on some purple heart and ebony. I have a commercial dishwasher in on catering kitchen. I will run the blade through it. I will let you know the results. I don't feel any build up on the blade. wtnhighlander
Purpleheart? Ha! For a good buildup removal test, go rip a few SYP floor joists from the local home center. Pine pitch hardens up like amber on a Jurassic mosquito!
