lrtorbett
I had chair seats re-caned (Cesca chairs) and the craftsperson used Minwax stain and boiled linseed to finish the new cane to match the existing seat backs. However, when I got the seats back there are drips down the sides of the wood seat frames. I tried to remove using Howard's restor-a-finish with no luck. Any advice on removing the drips then restoring the finish?
Popular Post AceHoleInOne
Ummm......take the chairs back to the "craftsperson" tell them to make the wrong...a right! No excuse for sloppy work in my book! -Ace-
lrtorbett
Can I use polyurethane over the BLO?
bgreenb
Can I use polyurethane over the BLO? Yes, but I would wait a while until you are absolutely sure that the BLO has completely cured, or you'll end up with an oily mess. I'd wait a few weeks even. Or you could do a coat of dewaxed shellac (zinsser sealcoat) over the BLO to seal it and then put poly over the shellac.
lrtorbett
Thank you for the responses. I will definitely seal the cane after the BLO dries. My next step will be to figure out how to deal with the drips.
Rick Mosher
Unless they are really hard, which from your description I doubt, Goof-Off should wipe them right off. Try with a cotton rag first or lightly with a scotch brite pad if the rag doesn't work.
