(exchanged pics 1 and 2) I did not mount the hinges for safety reasons (the little girl is 2 years old). Instead I mortised for the hinges and installed placeholders made from aluminium. Your little girl will treasure her homemade gift from dad. Not my girl;) - my half sister's daughter and my goddaughter The dowels are located in such a way that the lid can't slide away. Popular Post Guido_de Posted December 25, 2014 Author Popular Post Report Share Posted December 25, 2014 Due to privacy reasons I cannot post any pictures of the proud new owner of the toy chest.However, I must say that I was completely taken by surprise. The chest was made for a two year old and given that she just turned two and it is her first Christmas she actively participated in I did not expect her to recognize the box. Upon realizing this I gave the box in parts to her parents (it's after all their living room that benefits from a bit of order and a place to store toys) and got a hand-made teddy bear from a friend in Bulgaria. The bear - Molly - is lovely and great but the star of the evening was the chest. Especially after I got out the chalk... later on she had climbed into the box and her father had to get a her cushion and blanket because she wanted to sleep but near us and not in her room.I went home last night with that warm and fuzzy Christmas feeling (the Bordeaux helped too...) and felt quite good this morning (despite the Bordeaux). But I was blown away after being sent pictures of the little one this morning, who had - again - climbed into the chest, refusing to get out. I believe it is safe to say, that the piece was readily adopted by her and I hope it will stay with her for time to come.Mission accomplished.I'd like to thank all of you for encouraging words and the great little community that is WTO. Maybe so, but your masterful grain selection trumps any flaws. That's all I see when I look at that piece...a perfect choice for the top rail to match the curve, and the correct orientation on both the stiles. Very well done!
