wouldwurker
It's a big growth chart that my wife saw on Pinterest. The large watermarked numbers were simply stained on the original plan, but I thought routing them out freehand would be more fun. Plus, I hate stain. The thing no one will ever notice is that it took three costs of seal coat before the paint pen wouldn't bleed through the grain, so I'll make an annoying effort to point it out to everyone that sees it The board is softwood. Finish is Minwax polyacrylic - satin. Project journal can be found here.
Gary
Wow, this came out looking so good. Really nice job, very cleanly done. I know this took a lot of effort, you should be proud! Very cute subject in the photo as well.
wtnhighlander
Looks great, Vinny! I thought you were going to paint in the routed numbers as well?
wouldwurker
Nope, the routed bits were always to be el natural. Was going for a watermark effect. The tough numbers to paint were the small ones on the ruler.

Rapid Roger
That is a very nice, clean looking project! I really like it. I just have one question. Can you write in it with a pencil or Sharpie? What I have in mind is writing the child's name on it when they get measured on their birthdays. I know that the ability to write on it might encourage smaller people to try it but, still it would really be cool in years ahead to look back at how they have grown from the age of two to six years old. It is truly amazing how fast they grow! I remember my mother marking our height on the closet door frame when I was younger with a pencil mark and our name beside it. wouldwurker
Pencil didn't do well over the polyacrylic. Even the prismacolor finishing pencil wouldn't take. Fine point Sharpie looks great, dries fast, and doesn't smear.
