bushwacked
Wow those are awesome!! How did you get the Vs and the curved lines in color?
..Kev
Wow those are awesome!! How did you get the Vs and the curved lines in color? It's like bent lamination.. Build the board, cut (wavy line) in half. Pick 3 thin strips of wood of choice, glue them together and in the 2 halves of the board. Suck it all up tight with clamps to cure. Next day, draw the opposite wavy line and repeat... Here's a pic of a first wavy glue up, hope it all makes sense..
bushwacked
Makes perfect sense actually. Not as difficult as I was thinking it would be. Maybe one day when I get better I will try it out. On a side note. Those clamps make me jealous. I am slowly working on building my clamp collection. I pretty much get a new one per month. It's a slow process haha.
..Kev
These boards are fairly simple to build, just time consuming waiting for glue to dry. They would be much more difficult without the clamps. It took me a while as well to build up the clamp collection. I have had my rack emptied several times on various projects so, there are more of them in my future as well.
bushwacked
If the hard part is drying maybe I have a shot haha. Well once I get some good clamps that is. Are you using a drum sander on these to make the sanding a little easier or just a RoS starting with real low grit?
..Kev
Are you using a drum sander on these to make the sanding a little easier or just a RoS starting with real low grit? Yes.. Before I had the drum sander, I used a domino to keep things aligned. A biscuit jointer would work as well..
Eric.
Boards look great, Kev. Do you go straight from the bandsaw to glue-up or do you clean the curves somehow? Or do you use a template and a router? I saw that article in FWW or PWW, whichever it was, but I never ended up reading it. Here's one for you, bush...I'm close. I do typically go straight from the bandsaw to the glue up. It's imperative that the 2 halves fit perfectly together so, I just really take my time on the bandsaw to get a nice clean cut. ..Kev
You must have a steady hand yo! No more than anyone else I suppose.. As long as the 2 halves fit together perfectly, it all works well.
