Dnorris1369
So my wife tells me last week she wants planters built for the deck by thanksgiving . ( not like I have two other projects in full swing) so of course I drop everything and off to lowes I go. My question is what is a good finish. I'm using pressure treated pine Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Eric.
If it's treated I'd probably just let it weather. A finish won't really prolong its life since it's already saturated with those nasty chemicals, but it'll start looking nasty eventually and have to be repaired or reapplied. I probably would have bought some cedar or cypress instead. Or white oak.
Dnorris1369
Yea I would've but with the time constraints she put on me I really didn't have a choice to shop for wood Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
wtnhighlander
Deck paint.
bob493
Epoxy paint holds up well to elements. Id imagine deck paint like highlander mentioned would work pretty ok, no? I made some outdoor planters for my parents out of this stuff called "armor wood", hasn't needed ANYTHING for years. Lowes sells this, so if you haven't purchased stock, give that a looksie. Tpt life
Treatment is oily and treated is WET. Best practice was taught to me as a wait and prep. Since then I have let treated weather at least a year. Then I have solvent wiped before painting, just like with oily exotics. This has worked well for me. Dnorris1369
Yea I'm just finishing up two of them now. So maybe my best bet is no finish till summer?? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
bob493
Make sure you're wearing a respirator when sanding these bad boys too. Those chemicals in chemical treated pine are pretty nasty.
wdwerker
Wait at least 3 to 6 months for the surface to weather before any finish is applied. Exterior stains and deck paint seem like your best choice.
