Scott Bailey
OK I've made a few things so far but finally I feel like I did a pretty good job on something. It's a gift for my wife's parents, a 'bread and cheese board' (they love eating gourmet bread and cheeses with wine) and I'm pretty proud of how it turned out. I even had to do a little patch job because one of the glue joints had a gap and you can't even see it. Next up: decorative box for my mom. the design is borrowed from rdnharley, so thanks!

wdwerker
That's a nice looking board! What kind of oak did you use ? Red oak is way to porus in my opinion for cutting boards. I have seen plenty of folks use it so it might be just a pet peeve. White oak is a better choice, but I don't use either in cutting boards. Scott Bailey
Yes it's red oak, hence the bread and cheese, i couldn't help it, the color worked so well! but I will of course tell them not to use it for meat.

Scott Bailey
thanks everyone, I finally feel like I did something real (i know i know). one kinda silly question though, i finished with 3 coats of GF Salad Bowl finish, and I used 0000 steel wool between coats, but I'm wondering if I need to do any sort of buffing after the last coat? at this point I didn't do anything, after all It's a cutting board, it's going to take a bit of abuse, but i'm not sure if I'm missing a final step or not. finishing is still very new to me. ..Kev
That's the finish that I usually use on my boards and I don't do anything after the last coat. However, I intend for my boards to be used not kitchen decoration.

Shane Jimerfield
It ain't a cutting board until someone cuts something on it. ;-) Sent from my KFTHWI using Tapatalk HD
