Festool Help

:) festoon is a system designed to be compact and work together as a portable set of job site tools. Comparing Fein to FT as a system doesn't work. In a fixed shop that does not need portability there are plenty of other tools that far exceed FT in quality and usability. FT is nice for a small shop where space is at a premium where you may want to stack things in a compact organized manner. On the other hand the boxes are just boxes and any small tool can go in a similar box. FT is not the only source for T lock boxes but they are the only one with a vac that boxes can ce attached to. It's a vacuum buy what ever you want and don't feel bad about not buying into the hype.

Well I agree/understand with what you are saying. I just like to air out all options before deciding.

However not to take away from the OP I may start up a discussion on some of what you said in a new topic so we can talk it all out over there and not ruin this thread.

I had 2 Fein vacs before I got my first Festool. They start out real quiet because they have some elaborate foam sound deadening inside. After a few years it started running hot, so I carefully took it apart and blew all the dust out of the foam. It was tricky to get it back together . Some of the foam has started to crumble so it's a little louder now .

From what I have seen in the Festool they seem to be built differently so I hope it doesn't fill up with dust.

Yeah, that would be it. The one thing I don't like is having no ability to turn off the self clean filter. It makes a pop sound. It annoyed me a little at first, but I'm so used to it, I hardly notice now.

Your Rigid shop vac will have no problems getting the dust.  The only thing I can recommend is having a very flexible hose.  When I first had my TS55, I tried to use it with the standard shop vac 2.5" hose (with adapter) and it was a PITA.  Something like the Bosch VAC005 should work very well and is not expensive.

However, if you get a FT sander, you will want the ability to turn the suction down, and your Rigid probably does not do that.  Then you may want to look at alternatives like the Fein or just get the FT.

I adjusted the suction on my old Fein vac ( which had no adjustment) by drilling a row of holes in the hose end coupling. If I needed to use it for anything else I covered the holes with a ring of plastic pipe I found that had a snug fit.

I still use that vac primarily for sanding with my ETS 150/3
