AstroDave
Wood that's right Wood...almost done with the joy of machine assembly and made only the second trip to the local hardwood seller. Picked up some Sapele and some Hard Maple. Also grabbed some misc pieces to play with; Some Padauk and Walnut. Then stopped at the HD for some Poplar and they had some S4S maple that I grabbed since my jointer is not here yet. Then went to WoodCraft and got some thin strips and some veneer to play around with for the cutting board experiment oh a mahogany dowel for my beer caddies. Almost there... just the tablesaw to finish...but have to go to a company XMAS er Holiday er whatever celebration this evening but tomorrow is Saturday and come hell or high water I am making some sawdust.

Virginia Mark
Did you go to Colonial Hardwoods to get the 8/4 stock? They are really nice guys. Very helpful. I bought some PurpleHeart from them and the sales guy ask what I was making(cutting board). He suggested trying some quarter sawn white oak. He gave me a small piece to try. TerryMcK
It's always exciting buying wood and wondering what it will turn out like. Have a great day in your new shop.
AstroDave
Thanks Guys... Not a late night at the party so fingers should be safe from hangover induced injuries. Yes Virginia I did go to Colonial... they are only 15m from my house so that's convenient. Gonna head out to the lumber yard in Manassas and the one in Chantilly at some point but you can't beat having Colonial that close.

Raefco
We had family over for a big get together and somone managed to turn our fridge to "store display mode" the next morning when I walked past it I noticed the freezer said in was 44 degrees... AstroDave
Find that culprit and make em pay for the lost food That's been the biggest issue for us is we think the problem is fixed and it's not so we end up with stuff that's frozen that shouldn't be. Get's expensive and I need that money for MOAR WOOD The repair guy just left and believes he has solved the problem and from his description and demonstration of the problem I think we are good to go... Now back to our regularly scheduled program...Tablesaw assembly and sawdust manufacturing 101...
Popular Post Eric.
Before making your first cut, I suggest putting on Immigrant Song and turning it up as loud as your stereo can go. Gonna make you feel like a gigantic badass. And then when you're done, sit down and have a drink, and reflect upon the fact that you just spent 30 grand to turn big pieces of wood into smaller pieces of wood. AstroDave
LOL yes I will be prepared to contemplate my expenditures and the future ones to follow... I still need a lathe and a drill press Also have the Woodford Reserve at the ready...or some Bookers but not much left of that...
Virginia Mark
Dave, Colonial is great for exotics, Northland Forest Products in Manassas is great for domestics and much cheaper than Colonial. The other wood supplier near us is Vienna Hardwoods. The owner is very nice, inside the building there are piles of wood everywhere, not very organized.
