Dnorris1369
I was here and still dont believe it . I got home early today and was cleaning up my shop. Moving stuff outside and all to clean good. I even took my dewalt planer outside and set it on the ground to blow it out and clean the cart i have it sitting on. So then comes the ups man with my black friday order from bell forest. Love that discount. Sure just back up to the shop to make it easier to unload. How is it possible he crushed my planer. I still cant believe it and i was standing there guiding him up. Not to mention he is a good friend of mine. I am crushed right now cause i have been saving money for a jointer and now i have to replace planer. Really didnt wanna break out 600 for a planer im even thinking about picking up a ridgid to replace it. what u guys think
Firehawk
Do you have homeowners insurance? It might be covered.
..Kev
Ouch.. You might check your homeowners insurance to see if they'll cover it..
bushwacked
Take it up with UPS?
..Kev
Take it up with UPS? Probably difficult when the driver was a good friend.. I'd rather lose my planer than see my friend fired.
dwacker
Im sure they are self insured, I wouldn't worry about it drivers hit stuff all the time. They will probably just cut you a check $600 is nothing to UPS.
Bill Tarbell
It's kinda hard to blame the driver if he was guiding him. If your homeowners insurance deductible is less than the planer then i'd try that route. If they deny you then perhaps you can use your auto insurance and say you backed into it yourself? Auto covers if you wreck someone else's property.. i assume it would work if you wrecked your own?. Granted, the deductible probably makes it less worthwhile though. You may also be able to sell the parts that weren't damaged on ebay/craigslist to make up some of the cost to buy the replacement. Or perhaps you could buy parts to repair yours? Dnorris1369
Yea I'm not calling ups. I don't wanna get him in trouble. And yes I was guiding him. And homeowners isn't really worth claiming a planer. It's pretty crushed to don't think anything is reusable Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Firehawk
Maybe you really just wanted a new planer and didn't know how to explain it to your wife!

Bill Tarbell
Check craigslist in your area. I got a barely used dewalt 734 with clean blades for $150. Deals can be had, especially if you're patient.
Keggers
Sorry to hear about your planer. On the up side - this is a good time of the year to buy equipment. Lots of sales. Was there any damage to the UPS truck that might get your buddy into hot water?

I have the Grizzly and it's been good to me but, must admit, as soon as it dies it will be replaced with the 735..

Brendon_t
That is rather unfortunate. I have a 13" delta lunchbox that I got on cl unopened for 175. It's definitely done right by me so far.
Dnorris1369
I couldn't wait. Too many Xmas gifts to finish. Went and replaced mine today Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
rodger.
I have the ridgid tp1300 and its a great planer. I am having trouble finding blades though ( its 3 generations old) and have considered buying the dewalt myself. If you can get one used, its a solid performer. Bill Tarbell
I couldn't wait. Too many Xmas gifts to finish. Went and replaced mine today Congrats on having a quick replacement, even though it's likely still a bummer. What model did you go with? Perhaps you can provide a comparison review between your old and new planer once you've had a chance to try it out for a bit.
