Doomwolf
By dint of trolling Kijiji on a daily basis, I got in touch with a guy who collects tools and antiques, but is selling off part of his collection at his wife's insistence (to be fair, it is almost impossible to get into his garage). For the grand sum of $90, I got: -a Stanley No.6 in excellent shape, though the blade needs work -a 22" Canadian-made Disston D-8 crosscut saw that is sharp -a 8" cutting gauge -a round rasp, though it has the strangest tooth pattern I've ever sen Overall, I'm pretty happy. Other than the blade of the plane, everything is ready to go as is. And, very conveniently, I have three weeks off for Christmas to put them through their paces. PS-Ignore the fact that picture is posed on the kitchen table, it's the only place I could get some decent lighting

Coop
Get after it sir. Three weeks is unheard of for me! Enjoy the toys
RichardA
I just love getting new things to play with, especially users, I'm not interested in any tool that goes unused..... Well I do have a stanley #2 that I just can't wrap my hand around and it just sits.
TerryMcK
Nice haul. Should clean up fine as there seems to be superficial rust only.
Doomwolf
On the subject of rust, what is a good way to remove it from a saw plate?
wdwerker
It scares me that I remember tools looking like those when they were new.
Shane Jimerfield
how in the heck did I not know about Kijiji until right now!?!?!? I must be getting old...the internet is leaving me behind.
JohnDi
Doomwolf, check out the Logan Cabinet Shoppe blog. Bob has a video about using vinegar. I have used white vinegar in a shallow boot tray for removing rust from a saw plate and it works pretty well.
DaveT
I've had pretty good results on saws using a ceramic hob cleaner and a kitchen scourer. Quick rinse after and spray with wd40.
Doomwolf
Thanks for the white vinegar tip, just got a pint for $2 at Shoppers. That should do all my rust removal for quite some time.
