wouldwurker
...evidently I buy planes. A bit upset and disappointed since the lack of recipient appreciation of my handmade Christmas presents. Somehow, I feel a bit better now...
Trip
What's the application? Raise panels by hand? I've looked at this plane since it was introduced, but just couldn't find an application for it...
wouldwurker
I got it, in part, to clean up dado stack lines on half laps and rabbets. Mainly though, and this might sound nuts, but vicing up a board and taking shavings in total silence for no reason whatsoever for 30 minutes just clears my head. If that's all I do with it for now, the price of admission is cheaper than therapy.
..Kev
I love it for taking twist out of thick stock that's wider than my jointer so I can run it thru my planer.. Congrats, you'll love it!

Congrats, you'll love it! Just curious...why do you need a rabbet plane for that?
..Kev
Just curious...why do you need a rabbet plane for that? Misread.. Didn't realize it was the rabbet.. I don't have that one..
Eric.
Me neither. And although I because it's a LN and I over any LN, like Trip, I have no use for it. So for now, I'll have to settle for over that particular plane.

Vyrolan
A bit upset and disappointed since the lack of recipient appreciation of my handmade Christmas presents. That's because you made it look too easy...only we saw all those hours in the shop. =p We appreciate you Vinny. =)
wouldwurker
Thanks Buzzkills! Seriously though, I went in to buy the low angle block rabbet plane, but it's way too similar to the low angle block plane I already have....couldn't justify buying something so similar for it's limited purpose. So I picked up the jackrabbet. Plus, at this time I don't see myself dropping anymore cash on medium to larger size planes, and I only own the small block plane, so I also get the benefit of a larger plane in the foreseeable future for cleaning up burn marks on edges, nicer chamfers, and some general cleanup work (which is what I use my block plane for now). Trip
==>Thanks Buzzkills! Not really buzzkills, we were just jealous – anyone purchasing such a tool must already have a pretty good collection… I know one good use – raise Shaker-style panels by hand or cleanup machine marks on raised panels… I really don’t do Shaker anymore, or I’d have the plane… I believe the original use was in carriage work, but I forget… Probably a good question for the Schwarz…

Llama
This is the next plane on my list. It's the only low angle LN I don't own. And that's reason enough for me!

wouldwurker
Thanks for all of your feedback. I swapped out the low angle jack rabbet today for a medium shoulder plane. Much better tool for my current needs.
