arsteven
Hi all! I am in the process of building a workbench as one of my first major wood working projects, so I am especially amateurish when it comes to finishing. For the legs I am laminating two 2"X4" SYP boards with 1"X4" Cherry board sandwiched in between. I am wondering what would be a nice simple finishing technique to make the legs attractive. Should I finish the pine and cherry separately or is there an oil or shellac I can apply to the entire leg assembly that will look good and preferably allow the Cherry to really stand out as a nice accent to the pine? Also I plan on using the cherry board as a skirt around a layered plywood bench top, so would want to slop something on that assembly as well, I just don't know what! Thanks so much for your input. wdwerker
Watco Danish oil (natural) is easy to use and should make the Cherry stripe look good. Follow the directions on the can, dispose of the rags carefully.
Coop
Welcome to the forum. Those two woods together should look very good. Good luck on your build.
