bushwacked
I am about to be finishing my dining table. I will be going with some arm r seal to do the job. I was curious what would be good to finish with? I have a bag of tshirts I have been using up to now. The kind you can get at Home Depot and those places. What do you use? estesbubba
I use Scotts rags in a box for all my wipe on finishes
wdwerker
I buy cotton rags by the 25 lb box. It's scrap t shirt type material
Boatworks Today
I use a foam brush with arm-r-seal when there's detail to work around; large flat surfaces I'd use a cotton rag. I will add you need to be very careful when brushing this stuff as it's thin and is easy to get runs on vertical surfaces.. Just dip the tip and apply
bushwacked
Ok sounds like my cotton rags/shirts will do the job for this.
TerryMcK
Lint free washed cotton rags. If you are using tee shirts make sure you avoid any seams or crusty underarm areas. They leave streaks/scratches in the finish. Foam brushes in the corners.
AceHoleInOne
Pour the arm r seal into a flat pie pan or an old TV dinner tray and apply from it vs the can. I like old cotton rag. Since this is a table. Don't thin and apply smooth wet strokes without overworking it. -Ace-
Vyrolan
I actually like to brush on Arm R Seal with a natural bristle brush. I make a huge mess with the rags. I'm with Mike. I make the biggest damn mess anytime I try to use rags for applying anything.
wtnhighlander
Here's a tip to keep the mess down: fold the cotton rag in half, then roll it up and secure it with rubber bands to form a cylindrical 'mop'. Use the end with the folded edge to dip and rub in the finish. I do this with well-diluted shellac or varnish/poly, rubbing it in until the 'mop' is almost dry before taking another dip. Runs are almost non-existant, and the finish goes on very evenly. Being so thin, it may require more coats to achieve the desired film. If using the 'slather on and wipe back' technique for stains, use a separate rag, not rolled, for the wipe back step.

TerryMcK
do you not wash your shirts before throwing them into the rag bin? LOL - I don't use tee shirts for finishing at all. I just buy a box full of "Lint free washed cotton rags" - that's what it says on the label of the box
