rodger.
Thanks guys. I'm not crazy about the colour match of the top. In fact, the upside was originally supposed to be the down face. There were some issues I couldnt resolve on the originally planned upside (some tearout around some reversing grain, a slight defect in a glue line), so I changed the faces. I hope the front board of the laminated top will even out in colour.
Gary
Thanks guys. I'm not crazy about the colour match of the top. In fact, the upside was originally supposed to be the down face. I hope the front board of the laminated top will even out in colour. No need to point this stuff out, man. If we all wanted color THAT consistent, we'd be using melamine, right? It looks great, enjoy it... besides, there's a big-ass TV sitting on that top!
rodger.
Update - hiding the cables So I finally finished the little stand that will hide the cables and provide a shelf for my bluray player. I made a small box with 5 sides out of 5/8 cherry. The back is 1/4 ply, just like the unit. Joinery is pinned rabbets. The power bar and various other snakes are behind the box and not visible. I drilled a hole in the top to accommodate the wiring to the monitor and wireless headphones. The power bar cable is mounted to the underside of the unit and is not visible while standing or sitting. I mounted it with 3/8" cable straps and 3/4" screws. Enjoy!
