Vyrolan
Does anyone know the support requirements for EMT running through various interior spaces? I know surface-mounted should be strapped near the box and then so often, but what about if it runs behind walls...or along ductwork...or through a crawlspace... Would I have no choice but to get into those areas every 10-feet to add some kind of strap or support? The run would be for garage/shop subpanel and would be about ~50 feet straight shot from the main panel on the East end of the house to the mechanical room at the West end where I could easily go up into the garage. It's a straight shot because probably ~48 of those ~50 feet would be directly along the duct work (along supply main coming from the furnace in the mechanical room). Having to get to that at multiple spots along the length to a support strap would be a decent undertaking.
Tpt life
That is what kids are for. This kind of thing is how I spent my childhood helping my dad. For crawl spaces that is.

My 2-year-old isn't quite ready for that kind of helping. =) Also very little of the path is accessible from the crawlspace....only a small section where there's a hole in the concrete wall for ducting to pass through from the mains. wtnhighlander
You kind of need the support for EMT, it isn't the strongest stuff in the world. Every 10 feet makes sense because it is usually in 10 foot sections. Those thumbscrew couplings don't add enough strength to help support the weight, so unsupported sections could theoretically separate. Vyrolan
Yea that's what I turned up in all my reading since posting...seems the support is really required.
ColinF
I think you better check to see if it can be ran that close to ductwork, I don't believe I've ever seen electrical ran right next to duct, I'm assuming so if there was a break it wouldn't electrify the ductwork, of course those were commercial jobs and it may not matter, and since it's your house it may not matter to you? wdwerker
I would think one mid section mount point would be a good idea in addition to a mount at each joint.
