Help Identifying "Mystery Wood"

Thanks for the help in identifying my piece of mystery firewood.

I checked your site and others on the Web and, beyond the wonderfully magnified photos you supply, the characteristics of the bark of my sample coincide very well with the Coast Live Oak. In addition, as described in some sources, the wood is very hard when compared with other domestics.
