dodgeram99
Should I buy a multi-fuel heater for $350. It would heat the whole shop and run for 9 hours on a full tank. Or use the money and finish putting in insulation and OSB for the walls?
Tpt life
Insulation and OSB. Hands down. It will make whatever heat you use go so very much further and will shorten the length of year you run it.
..Kev
Both.. Summer is just around the corner so, in a short while, you won't need the heat. Maybe buy the heat now and chip away at the insulation and wall covering.
Vyrolan
Insulation...who knows how your requirements may change with better insulation. A smaller cheaper heater may work in the end.
estesbubba
I insulated my building well and it makes a huge difference. When the heater isn't running the shop usually settles around 46-48 in the mornings. When the temp gets below zero the shop is 40-42. Once I get the shop up to 60 degrees the heater runs about 10 mins per hour.

Brendon_t
It seems like buying the heater first is throwing money at a symptom. Without adequate insulation, The heat you make is as good as gone anyway.
Tom Cancelleri
Always insulate first. Insulation will make a big difference. Insulating my shop, on 0 degree days it's 45-50 in there. I keep my new heater set to 60 now. Runs about 5-10 minutes an hour and my electric bill hasn't gone up very much at all.
Joshua Luther
I know I'm late to this discussion, but I couldn't agree more with insulating and sheathing the walls first. I just am finishing up my garage insulation and wow what a difference it has made. Even without a heater running. I put R-13 faced fiberglass and 3/8 plywood over the top. I don't plan on attaching anything to the sheathing so I went for the cheapest route there. I am filling the seams with joint compound then plan on putting on 1-2 coats of paint to brighten up the shop. Proverbs 16:
