wouldwurker
After looking at all of the candleholders made this Christmas on the forum, I thought I would try one. Just kind of ad-libbing this one.... going from memory from what I remember from you guys at Christmas. I bandsawed and milled a piece of 'kiln dried' grocery store firewood...A mix of pecan and Oak..hoping for pecan...my nose let me know it was oak right away. Some ray fleck in there though. Figured I would turn it into one of those candleholders.... Epoxy'ed the bark (how did I ever live without the west system pumps???), dado'ed, and inserted some beveled pieces of cutting board scrap. Anyway, staying true to my 2015 resolution of making more small quick projects, but doing something new every time (milling a log and trying live edge in this case ) Weaponized epoxy needs little chisel cleanup, but it's pretty close to finish ready. Probably not going to bother with the circular recesses until I get through 4 seasons to see if it cracks/explodes.

wouldwurker
Yeah...I know. Need to make a little router 2" router template...can't justify the price of a giant Forsner bit on 50 cent lumber
wtnhighlander
Pretty cool, Vinny. I'd like to try a firewood project, but after growing up in a home with only wood for heat ( and 1969 era insulation ), I swore off cutting firewood forever!
wouldwurker
I'm a bit frazzled about creepy crawly's getting into my shop and eating my good lumber (or my house!). I've been nuts about throwing all the scraps back into the yard. C'mon, WTN, you know chopping firewood is good for the lats!
Coop
I have some cherry from a recent harvest that I found some critters in.I hate to throw the wood away or put it in the fireplace and since I found several fire ant mounds in the field next door, I think I will lay it on top of the ants and see if they will harvest the white meat for me. weithman5
Steve, I just wanted to tip my hat to you. You offer material and tools and not just advice more than anyone I have seen. I understand that you probably know some of the members personally, I just think it is a nice touch. Don
wdwerker
Actually met Vinny here on the Forum. Glad to share leftover hardware or scrap that I will never use. I had a woodworking neighbor but his family outgrew the house and moved to far away to play in the shop from time to time.
wtnhighlander
C'mon, WTN, you know chopping firewood is good for the lats! Dude, before joint pains drove me out of heavy lifting (and I started getting old and fat), I wore a 48" jacket and 34" waist. I don't need no splitting maul for lats! wouldwurker
I had hip surgery at 29 when I tore my labrum (insert joke here) in the squat rack. Went from 185 to 129 in three months. Great way to get cut, right...looked great for 6 months... All downhill after that.
