Janello
I'm wondering where I can find the router bit(s) that were used on the edge profile on the triangle in these two examples. To me it looks like a small table edge bit, but I'm not sure. I spent quite a while searching and just can't find an exact match for either. wdwerker
Sometimes it's just a matter of using a smaller bearing to achieve the lower rabbet.
Tom Cancelleri
I've combined bits to get a custom profile
Janello
So the concensus so far is that both of these are "custom profiles" and there really is no store bought bit that will do exactly whats shown? The first example looks to be a standard round over with an extended thumbnail on one side. Suppose that can be accomplished with a rabbet bit or shoulder plane. The second one is a bit trickier, but I guess can be done the same way with a jig for the taper. Or Table saw....and elbow grease.
Cochese
I think both are roundover bits, with a different radius used on the second.
RichardA
If its a store bought item.... It might just have been done on a shaper or in a moulder. My wood guy does custom mouldings and he has a $65,000 moulding machine that has thousands of cutters to make and copy most any profile you can come up with! Tom King
If you absolutely have to have a router bit that's an exact match for something, or something to your own design, Whiteside can make it for you. Cost, if it's nothing too unusual, is around $250. Call Whiteside and talk to Todd. He can work from a sample of molding, or a drawing that doesn't have to be perfect, but will need good measurements. If it's just a one off, or you need to repair something, hollow and round molding planes would get the call from me. That first one is just a roundover bit, as has already been stated. I've never seen a stock bit to cut that second profile.
wtnhighlander
Example 1 looks like a plain old bearing guided roundover to me. Example 2 is almost the same, but looks like it coukd be done with one pass on the roundover, followed by a shallow pass with a chamfer buried in the fence, and some sanding to soften the transition.
